What’s it like to work with me?
If you’ve never worked with a freelance copywriter, you might be wondering what’s actually involved and if it’s a service worth outsourcing for your business? For many of the clients that I work with, hiring me is the first time they’ve worked with a copywriter and they’re not always sure what to expect and how the process works. If you’ve been considering working with a copywriter but have been unsure about what’s involved, I’ve broken the process down to keep things nice and simple...
What exactly can I help you with?
This is a question that I’m often asked and the answer tends to be ‘anything that involves words!’ Whether it’s writing website copy, blog posts, social media content, print campaigns, press releases, content for email newsletters or coming up with names and straplines, I can help. If you want to find out more about the services I offer, just head over to my Services page. I’ve also recently launched the Content Clarity Calls, which offer a slightly different way of working with me and you can find out more about them here.
Getting to know you
First things first, I want to get to know you and find out more about your business. I offer a free 15 minute discovery call so that you can find out more about the services that I offer and how I can help your business. I’ll then send you over a quotation which will outline the project and my charges in detail. If you decide to work with me, I’ll offer you a longer call, either via Zoom or on the phone (whatever works best for you is fine with me), so that I can find out more about the project that you’d like me to work on and discover more about your business. What are your brand values, what really makes your business tick? Who is your ideal client and what makes your business unique from the competition? I’ll be taking notes during our call so that I’ve got all the info that I need before I even start to think about putting pen to paper (or switching on my laptop).
Evaluating your existing content
If you already have a website I’ll be taking a look at that, as well as casting an eye over your social media feeds, so that I can get a feel for your brand voice and the messaging that you’re currently putting out there. I want to find out as much about your brand as possible so that I can really get to the heart of understanding what makes your business tick. If you’ve got additional content that you’d like to send me, perhaps brochures, leaflets or a brand voice document, just email them across. The more information I can gather on your business before I make a start on your project the better!
Before I start writing
Once you’ve decided to work with me, I’ll send you over a copy of my terms and conditions, please make sure that you give them a read and let me know if you have any questions. I’ll then get the project booked into my diary for an agreed date. I’ll also ask for a 50% payment before I start writing to confirm your booking and, as soon as I have the initial draft copy ready, I’ll email it across to you for your feedback.
It’s all about collaboration
Working with me is very much a collaborative process. I want you to be happy with the work that I produce for you and, once you’ve seen my initial draft, it’s time for you to give me your feedback and I’ll happily take on board any amendments or suggestions that you may have. Two rounds of revisions are included in the price we’ve agreed so, once I’ve made any changes, I’ll send the revised copy back to you for further input. This part of the process really is a two way conversation about the copy, as it’s important to ensure that it reflects your brand and connects and engages with your ideal client. Once you’re happy with the final copy, the final invoice is issued and sent to you and all that’s left to do is for you to pay the remaining balance.
What do my clients say?
Who better to tell you what it’s really like to work with me, than some of my clients? I’ve put together a few of their comments to show how the process works from their perspective…
“After providing Julie with an outline for the required website content, she was able to produce extremely well written and engaging copy that spoke directly to our target audience and was consistent with our brand voice. The copy that Julie produced was perfect for our business and I would not hesitate to recommend her. She is professional, organised and added real creative flair to the project.” Robert Phillips, Director, Benula Sporting Estate
“Working with Julie is fantastic. Not only has she given me builds on my website copy but she now works with me on my blogs too. She listens to my ideas and then manages to articulate in written format exactly what I'm trying to say in the way I would too! It feels like complete collaboration and that’s been very helpful for a control freak like me!” Shelley Bosworth, Shelley Bosworth Coaching
